The Dwarf

Who I am?

Although all the stories of Oscar Wilde's anthology are great, I believe that my story affected you more that the other. Oscar Wilde called to my story: 'The Birthday of the Infanta' and I think that he did it because that was the day I met her.

I´m a fantastical creature, I guess what I’m male. Everyone in the story called me: "dwarf" by my short height. Also, the children despised me by my ugliness. I’m certainly very ugly, in both face and body.
He did not seem to know how strange and ugly he looked. He seemed quite happy! When the children laugthed, he laugted too.
My look is: I’ve got a round face and a big head. Moreover, I’ve got long, curly and black hair. My body is made up of a short legs and long arms.

But… despite my awful physical appearance, I have a heart gold and I’m very social butterfly and I like to get laughs around here.
The Infanta was very amused by him...Then, he put his hand on his heart and went down on one knee in front of her.

"The Infanta has given me a white rose and she loves me. Oh, I want to be with her in the palace."

He was looking at himself in a mirror!
Actually, I was a happy-go-lucky creature until the children broken my sensitive heart, when they laughed at me, not with me.
"Why didn't they leave me in the forest? There were no mirrors there and I never knew. Why didn't my father kill me?"

Another sad thing about my story is that I was in love with the Infanta and I tried to win her heart until I looked at myself in the mirror, and I discovered I was horrible.
"...and find her. I will tell her that I love her. I will ask her to come away with me after my dance. I know that she will come to the forest with me". He smiled as he thought of it.

But the little dwarf did not move...
"Why won't he dance again?" asked the Infanta.
"Because his heart is broken. He did not want to live, and he is dead." said Doctor.
"In future," she cried, "I will only play with people who have no hearts."
